Maisie Pearce | Filmmaker and Analyst

Hello There!
My name is Maisie Pearce and I am an experimental filmmaker and analyst. On this website, you will find my lone conceptual film and theory projects. I fundamentally believe that true art in whatever form comes from the union between production and the abstract, to study and create. Neither should be sacrificed or dismissed...
My Story.
I have been studying film for 6 years, starting with GCSEs at 15 years old. It is here where I found my passion and since then, film has been my continuing major. I quickly discovered that I had a knack for it, and perhaps saw film in a way that not all of my peers did. I believed that film was capable of standing with the big name forms of art, and that approaching filmmaking and analysis with these art forms in mind can produce truly creative and sometimes original ideas. My first film (which you will not find on this website) was called Ekki Mukk - a title taken from one of my favourite songs from my favourite band. This film sought to look into the concept of slow horror, revealing small bits of information in a gruesome long take. The film received full marks at GCSEs (a first for me) and spurred me on to continue to do what I loved, exploring concepts in vignettes and experimental film and theory; delving into the world of academia in film, art history, photography and literature. I found that the integration of these references and inspirations did less to muddy the waters of my film work but enhanced it due to the patterns found across many disciplines. My latest film project looked at structure of music within film, as well as a poetic form of storytelling (more detail about this can be found on my written works page). I plan to continue down this path into my future practice and theory work as I continue to develop my studies.
